A Bowral woman has set out to make sleeping a little bit easier for patients of Bowral and District Hospital.
Lesley Mooney has asked the community to donate unwanted eye masks to patients to give them a better chance at a restful sleep.
Ms Mooney is a volunteer in the busy general ward at the hospital and has set the task of making patients lives a little bit easier.
During lunch or dinner times Ms Mooney, along with two other volunteers, help patients with “setting up” so they can better access their.
“We help take lids off, make sure cutlery is at hand and food is within reach,” she said.
The volunteers also restock and fold plastic bags, small tasks that are very much appreciated by hospital staff.
Ms Mooney has appealed for more volunteers to help out with these tasks.
She said the role would be best suited to active types, particularly retired nurses who are “at home” in a ward environment.
“Other folk with bags of common sense and confidence fit the bill as well,” she said.
Ms Mooney will induct and work with new volunteers and will co-ordinate a very flexible roster.
Anyone interested in donating masks should contact ms Mooney on 4862 5230 to arrange the pick up or drop off of masks.
Community members interested in volunteering at the hospital, contact Nursing Administration at the hospital on 4861 0288.
