Turner, who competed with the Kookaburras at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, was selected for the indoor squad after his performance at the Open men’s Indoor Australian Championships.
The championships were held in Wollongong as part of the Festival of Indoor Hockey. The competition provided experienced and up-and-coming players the opportunity to prove their abilities against the best in Australia.
The squad will come together in Canberra mid-year (June/July) to begin training with a three-day selection camp.
The final twelve-player Australian Men’s Indoor Hockey World Cup team will be selected from the camp.
The selected team will play at the world cup in 2018.
Head Coach Steve Willer said the squad was a great mix of experienced and young players.
“We have chosen a squad that we believe has the athleticism, attitude, team orientation and positional flexibility to achieve optimal team balance and the best possible results,” he said.
