For the past four years Rare Cancers Australia has held a Kosi Challenge.
Directors of Rare Cancers Australia Richard and Kate Vines first walked from Canberra to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko to help raise awareness of the challenges facing rare cancer patients.
For the first year, 30 people took part and that number has continued to increase with 240 people climbing the summit in 2016 with more than $90,000 raised.
Kate said she hoped more people would join them for the 2017 challenge on March 18.
“Our mission is to improve awareness, support and access to treatment. Currently, there is little support for people with a rare cancer,” she said.
“The mortality rate is extremely high, and coupled with the exorbitant financial burden of treatment, most patients struggle to access information and care.”
The money raised will help improve patient support programs, treatment and research, advocacy programs and education and awareness programs
