9.00AM: Roads have re-opened in the area.
7.17AM: Roads are still closed in the vicinity of the Reekie’s Tyres and More premises.
Fire officers are still at the seen but the blaze appears to be extinguished according to a witness.
Saturday, November 26 –
4.59pm: The road is still closed at the intersection of Bowral and Station Streets and at the intersection of Funston Street and Moss Vale Road.
Police and fire services are still at the scene.
The dark plumes of smoke have gone but there is still a light smokey haze in in the area.
3.45pm: A witness on the scene said “there are no hoses on the fire at the moment”.
“There is still smoke coming from the shop but it is not black,” they said.
“All the of signs on the building are melted and some of the windows on the building have blown out.”
3.20pm: There are at least 11 fire trucks on the scene, including Fire and Rescue NSW and Rural Fire Service units.
“Fire fighters are smashing windows on the second story of the building and hosing through them,” a witness said.
The fire had spread to the Bowral Veterinary Hospital building, which is nearby. The fire has now been contained.
Both stores were closed for business when the fire started.
3.10pm: They are still turning people away from the scene.
“There are still masses of black smoke in the sky,” a witness said.
More fire trucks continuing to arrive on the scene.
Traffic is heavy in the area.
2.40pm: Funston Street is blocked at the roundabout at the interseciton of Kangaloon and Moss Vale Roads.
The fire is still burning out of control. No one is allowed to approach the area.
2.40pm: There is a fire on Station Street, Bowral, at Reekies Tyres and More. Traffic is heavy in the area and people are urged to stay away.
The Southern Highland News reporter on the scene said “at least six fire trucks and four police cars are on the scene”.
The road is closed at the Station and Bowral streets intersection.
“There are explosions coming from the building and large plumes of smoke coming from the shop. Police are directing traffic away from the scene,” the Southern Highland News reporter said.
“It smells toxic, like it is burning rubber.”
The tyre shop is opposite Eastbrook Medical Centre and near Harris Farm Markets and a vet.
North-bound traffic in Bong Bong Street is heavy and being diverted away from Station Street.
2.30pm: A fire has broken out in Station Street, Bowral. Large plumes of black smoke can be seen in the sky.
