The former Sturt Gallery director of 11 years will return to showcase her latest works in Plates, Shapes and Containers.
Through this exhibition, she will promote an appreciation for art when she returns for the first time.
While her work is created through difficult firing techniques, Megan said she was motivated by the deadline of an exhibition.
"It pushes your work to another level - it's a marker in your career," she said.
"When it works, it's very hard to determine what makes it work - some firings do, some firings don't,"
Her artistic process involves applying slips, brushing and firing with onglaze enamels and reduced lustre techniques.
While the work was a challenge, Megan said she was happy with the result.
"It's a very fickle technique but it's worth it for the beautiful works," she said.
"Every pot is unique and never to be repeated."
Megan said she looked forward to her return to the gallery she once looked after.
"It's always a privilege to exhibit at the gallery," she said.
"I hope people get an enjoyment at looking at ceramics."
Megan is interested in the expressive character of mark making on ceramics.
She is fascinated by historical ceramics and draws inspiration from the vast world of functional ceramics.
The works she makes are primarily intended for use.
Megan is a well-respected ceramicist with a wealth of experience in the field.
She was educated in art at Alexander Mackie Teachers College and the National Art School.
She was an apprentice at Cuppacumbalong Pottery under Doug Alexander and she established a pottery in Colo Vale.
It was at the pottery that she made functional earthenware ceramics which were sold all over Australia.
Plates, Shapes and Containers: Recent Ceramics by Megan Patey will run from Sunday, June 5 until Sunday, July 24 at Sturt Gallery.
