Tertini Wines was awarded the Boutique Wine Awards trophy for Best Riesling for their Tertini Private Cellar Collection Riesling 2013 in a competition judged against wines from Australia and New Zealand in Sydney last week.
Winemaker Jonathan Holgate said he was very excited this wine had been awarded such a prestigious trophy in the same field as so many other great wines.
"The wine was produced from a particularly low-cropping block from our Yarrandoo Vineyard in High Range and ripened in a particular way that yielded some very intense flavours," Mr Holgate said. "Given the complexity of the fruit in the grapes, we made only a small batch of the wine and expect it will cellar well and develop even greater varietal flavour and taste as it ages."
"Our rieslings all tend to age and graduate beautifully down the track and the judges obviously saw the potential in the wine and its ability to get even better even though it is drinking very well now."
Adding to the excitement of the Best Riesling Trophy was a Silver Medal for the Pinot Noir 2013, a Bronze for their Nebbiolo 2014 and Bronze for the Riesling 2013.
Awards chairman Huon Hooke congratulated the Boutique Wine Association on it's 20th anniversary and said the awards had been another fine success.
Of the 1000 boutique entries 90 per cent were Australian and 10 per cent from New Zealand.
The judges awarded 15 trophies, 43 Gold medals, 106 silver medals and 336 bronze medals. Wine companies were eligible to enter the Boutique Wine Awards if they produced less than 250 tonnes annually and were independently owned.
The trophies were presented by Mr Hooke at a celebration trophy lunch for the winners, sponsors and supporters on July 17 at Doltone House in Sydney.
