The study is an initial stage in the development of a comprehensive Floodplain Risk Management Plan and will assist with planning for and managing the risk the community faces from flooding.
The participation of the community is essential to the success of the study, particularly when it comes to locality-specific flood information.
A questionnaire was posted to the immediate residents in mid-July.
Residents are also able to provide additional comments, stories, photographs or advise the council of property flood markers on their properties.
The state government has been encouraging all councils to investigate and plan for the impacts of flooding events that may impact on their community.
The Office of Environment and Heritage is providing 67 per cent of the total funding and technical assistance for the project.
The study involves collecting and collating data on flooding and the catchment.
This will be essential for developing future flood models.
