The Illawarra Mercury reported that a spokeswoman for Wollondilly Shire Council confirmed cast and crew of the multi-million dollar flick would take over part of Menangle St, as well as an old hardware shop and Wollondilly Shire Hall.

The film will be set primarily in Japan and be centred around a forbidden romance between Wolverine and a Japanese woman.

But Wollondilly Advertiser reporter Michael Cox has learned the scenes to be filmed Friday are to be set in Alaska, with snow to be trucked in and placed on rooftops and the road.

Painters were also on site this afternoon beginning the transformation of the street scape.

Menangle St will be closed between Argyle St and Colden St from noon Thursday, as the area is prepared for filming.

While the council spokeswoman said she had not been provided with any further details, there are rumours Jackman himself could be in town for Friday’s shoot.

Earlier this week, an area in Kurnell was transformed into a World War II prisoner of war camp for the flick, which began filming on Monday.

Studio filming will take place at Sydney’s Fox Studios, while additional location shoots will take place in Sydney’s CBD, the Sutherland Shire and western Sydney.

Acting Premier Andrew Stoner said the film would create almost 2000 jobs and pump more than $80 million into the state’s economy.
