The Magic men are now third on the Waratah Men's League ladder courtesy of an impressive 67-51 win over the Hornsby Ku Ring Gai Spiders at the Moss Vale Basketball Stadium on Saturday, April 13.
Leading at the end of every interval, coach Ben Morris said the most pleasing thing about the performance was how sturdy the defence was.
"We were a bit slow offensively today, but our defensive pressure and intensity was what got us the win," Morris said.
"If we keep the intensity up all season, we should be fine."
The offense isn't where it's supposed to be at the moment, but Morris said he couldn't complain.
The team's still adjusting offensively, but we're getting it done," he said.
"I can't ask for anything better than keeping a team to 51 points."
With the ledger currently at four wins and one loss for the Magic, the team is on track to achieving its goal which is to play in finals.
"My expectations are to be in finals at the end of the year and starting the season off well helps," Morris said.
"The Tamworth Thunderbolts and the Hills Hornets look to be the teams to beat early on."
The Magic will be looking to continue their fine form when they take on the Port Macquarie Dolphins, which beat them by three points on the opening weekend, from 5pm on Saturday, April 20 at the Moss Vale Basketball Stadium.
