Now, on Friday, September 18, the Mittagong Lions 16s Girls League Tag (GTL) team will be hunting finals glory against the Thirlmere Roosters.
After a hard fought victory against Camden in the semi-finals, the girls will be looking to take that momentum and win a flag for their beloved club.
Head coach of the 16 GLT Mittagong side, Corey Shepherd said it was an excellent feeling seeing the side make the grand final.
"I'm pretty proud of the girls," Shepherd said.
"They've had a few new faces join the group up from the 14s of last year. They've worked really well together and got a great win over Camden to seal their grand final birth."
This will be the second year in a row the GTL Lions make the grand final, and they'll be looking for the win.
"From last season, the girls have improved all over the field," Shepherd said.
"From catching abilities, to getting from one end of the field down to the other. Most importantly they've learnt to work well with one another, especially with all the new players."
The GTL competition continues to grow not just in the Highlands, but nationwide.
The players continue to improve and coach Shepherd has seen those developments watching from the sidelines.
"The girls adsorb more knowledge for the game every week," Shepherd said.
"They continue to excel in thinking on their feet in pressure situations. Those quick decision makings make our lives easier when making our way down the field for a try.
"The skill of the girls is improving and it's great to watch."
Facing Thirlmere Roosters in the grand final will be no easy task. They have a lot of weapons in their arsenal and the Lions will need to keep sharp to subdue them.
"Thirlmere have a couple of fast girls," Shepherd said.
"We have to come out with a great defensive mindset. If we can make our one-on-one tags, then that will go a long way to winning the flag."
The Mittagong Lions 16 GTL side will face off with the Thirlmere Roosters in the grand final at Kirkham Park in Camden, Friday September 18 at 6:45pm.
For anyone unable to attend, all grand final games will be live-streamed on YouTube for all supporters to watch.
