In a statement released on Friday, August 14, the Bong Bong Racing committee (BBRC) have been forced to cancel the race due to COVID-19.
President Simon Parkes said the cancellation had to be done.
"The Bong Bong committee have reviewed all options for conducting the Bong Bong Races this year," Parkes said.
"The ability to meet COVID-19 safety regulations and not put our community at risk is considered virtually impossible at this stage.
"In the light of this, we have resolved that the races for 2020 be cancelled.
"As indicated in our notice for annual membership dues, those members who have maintained their membership will have this amount carried over to 2021.
"We are hopeful that the crisis will have been resolved to enable the club to get back to normal and stage the best picnic race in this state in 2021.
"We encourage members who are yet to pay their annual dues, to do so and avoid having their membership lapse.
"A separate reminder will be issued in due course."
