And the way they've sliced through the competition in the pre-season competition, redemption is looking promising.
Marulan FC's All Age Men (AAM) First Division have trounced the competition with a stunning three wins from three games to take out the Highlands pre-season cup.
Last season Marulan went undefeated all season until coming up short in the grand final against Yerribool.
President of Marulan FC, Dan Cooper said those final losing wounds still sting, but this victory is beginning the healing.
"To get beaten in the final after going undefeated all last season, we were ecstatic with this win," Cooper said.
"We played Yerrinbool and Hill Top on Saturday, July 11 to win the pre-season cup.
"They're both very good teams and to take away the win, whilst down on players, it was a really gutsy win for the club.
"Yerrinbool are a final's team and the game had a real final feel to it. For a shortened game and the team we had on the park, it was a massive effort."
It's a headache dealing with all the COVID restrictions. It's a lot of added pressure for committees putting in their free time, but seeing the kids happy is worth it.
- Marulan FC President, Dan Cooper.
Marulan FC had to go the hard route in this pre-season cup with players out, but due to the COVID pandemic, as a club they are down in player numbers compared to last season.
"As a club we are down around 20-30 numbers from last year," Cooper said.
"But, overall we fared pretty well as a club during the whole pandemic. We've got all grades in the Goulburn competition, except our men competing in the Highlands Cup.
"We do have some under 8s players missing, who will go on to help the under 9s. Under 11s are also a little short, so if anyone is interested in playing, come on down. Senior sides are full."
With COVID changing everyday living regularly, seeing the players out on the field enjoying the game they love is a sign of normality for Cooper.
"We're feeling normal already," Cooper said.
"The kids are back training and playing.
"It's just the guidelines we have to follow. It can be hard to tell a six year old not to tackle their mate during training.
"It's just good to see all the kids happy out there though.
"It's a headache dealing with all the COVID restrictions. It's a lot of added pressure for committees putting in their free time, but seeing the kids happy is worth it."
