You may have read about the planned 'bodyline' attack New Zealand intends to wager against Australia in the Boxing Day test at the MCG.
In 1947 the English opening bowler Harold Larwood unleashed bodyline bowling to the gentleman's game.
The objective was to try to unsettle their nemesis, Don Bradman.
Bradman was making mincemeat of Larwood and company.
So desperate measures were needed to stem the flow.
Larwood started bowling full tosses at 70mph at Bradman, not at his feet but at his head.
The crowd jeered, Bradman jumped.
Bradman was only human and the barrage of torpedoes fired by Larwood took their toll until The Don got his technique in order.
The potential lethal brand of bowling is not permitted today. Any ball bowled on the full , above the waist is deemed a no-ball.
New Zealand knows that.
Instead of the beamer they will concentrate on short pitched missiles aimed on or outside the leg stump.
Prime target?
Smithy.
I'll Have two bob on the Aussie No. 4 to weather the storm.
