Now one local car yard is backing the storm on the horizon.
Southern Highland Toyota and the Southern Highlands Storm Rugby League Club have joined forces and both are looking forward to the partnership.
Both camps see the positives the partnership can bring to one another. Highlands Storm chairperson Peter Howard and Matt Burke were ecstatic about the teaming.
"We approached Toyota," Howard said.
"We thought it was an opportunity for the Southern Highlands Club and Toyota to be able to get better exposure for one another."
"Toyota have been associated with local footy for a few years," Burke said.
"Now with the merger of several clubs, we felt that they were a good local brand to attach to our club. It's a good fit and when we approached them, they were more than happy to jump on board and get in on the venture.
"It exciting. It's good for them and good for us."
It's exciting times for rugby league in the Highlands
- Matt Burke
Sales Manager at Southern Highland Toyota Matt James couldn't pass up an opportunity to get behind an exciting, up and coming venture that supports Highlands sporting youth.
"We're happy and support the local merger," James said.
"It's beneficial for us and the club. We want to help local young kids and sporting groups. It's an excellent way for us to expose our brand locally."
This is just the beginning for the newly merged club. The club is looking forward to a strong 2020 debut season on and off the field.
"It's exciting times for Rugby League in the Highlands," Burke said.
"With the Storm starting up, we're aiming to be to be a top end brand. We want to be competitive across all fields and also offer the numbers where kids can play in a safe environment that suits them and their playing needs.
"With the seniors, it's been a long time since there's been a club in the Highlands that is catering for the Highlands players.
"That's what we're aiming to do. We want to bring Rugby League back to the grassroots level and attract players that want to play for the Highlands and enjoy the sport."
For anyone without a team and thinking of playing footy in 2020, the Storm are still accepting players and are ready to build any player up.
"Our club is very inclusive and to have our juniors and seniors tightly together is great," Howard said.
"The coaching levels we see from our juniors all the way to seniors, then to our coaching coordinators, it's all about the one brand.
"It's not a separate club, it's one club, and it's the Southern Highlands Rugby League Club."
Opportunities to join, inquire about sponsorship, or just to have some social fun, all questions can be asked this weekend at a meet and greet.
"We have our Southern Highlands Storm Community BBQ day this Saturday," Burke said.
"It will be held at Moss Vale Community Oval at 2pm. It's a family meet and greet.
"It's for all ages and anyone that wants to be associated with our club or interested to know more, and where we're heading for 2020 and beyond, come along and check us out to see what we have to offer."
