The Polar Bears, who were convincingly beaten by the Dolphins, in round one came to this match with a different mindset.
The Bears certainly lifted in this match. They led the Dolphins 1-0 at the first break, after Scott McClean scored the only goal of the period.
The Polar Bears defence was a feature of the match in containing scoring machine Daniel Barnes, after his six goals scoring blitz the previous week.
The second quarter saw the Dolphins comeback with a single Barnes goal, to lock up the match at 1-1 at half time.
The Polar Bears were taking it to Dolphins, the defence of Dolphins was tested, with Colin Hutchinson in their goal doing some great work.
The game continued after half time in the same vain, Daniel Barnes scored for Dolphins and Karl Nurse for Polar Bears. Neither side were able to convert their chances, the cross bar proving to be a big problem for the Polar Bears.
Their goalie, Alan Balla was very good under pressure while neither side was giving away an inch in the field. The final period was tight, with neither side able to break the 2-2 dead lock, until Scott McClean converted a penalty shot, with only a minute and a half left to play.
Dolphins were not done with literally, as Steve Dunn stepped up to score the equaliser for the Dolphins, with less than a minute left to play.
The defence of both teams held tight for the last moments of the match for the 3-3 draw.
The Horton's Heroes found themselves unable to field a team for the game against the Sharks, in a week where the end of school functions played havoc with the round's matches.
In B grade Polar Bears 3 defeated Horton's Heroes 2, in Horton's Heroes first loss of the season.
The Polar Bears took an early lead through a Lillian Watkins goal and were backing up the scoring with great defence. Polar Bears goalie, Luc Puchert, began the match with a great first quarter and kept it going for the whole match.
Horton's Heroes bounced back with two good goals in the second period, with goals to Alex Ta-ma and Elyse Balla, to one goal from the Polar Bears, scored by Jack Hatcher.
The 2-2 score line was an unusual one for the Horton's Heroes, who have been prolific scorers in all of their matches so far this season. The Polar Bears defence deserved a pat on the back.
Lauren Cameron broke the dead lock with a sensational goal in the third period to give the Polar Bears the upper hand. The final period was tense with neither side able to crack the tight defence.
Craig Ford, the Horton's Heroes goalie, also deserved praise for his efforts. Horton's Heroes piled on the pressure in the fourth period but the Polar Bears kept them out for the final 3-2 win.
The other B grade games were victims of the end of school functions. Smugglers, who are the most enthusiastic team of the competition engaged in a good social game after Oxley Blue had to withdraw this week.
Dolphins were in the same position and took the points after Oxley Gold had to withdraw.
