It's fair to say that some parents were glad of it, but we'd like to think they miss it in the off season.
The Rovers played away matches and travelled to the north side of town for the final time.
Knowing full well the effort it takes to host matches we certainly appreciate the efforts of the other clubs when they host, and as always the canteens and coffee vans are well attended.
So a big Robbo thank you to Yerrinbool-Bargo, Hill Top, Mittagong, Bowral, Moss Vale, Exeter and Bundanoon who participate in the competition and welcome us to their fields when we're playing away from home.
Our U12s had a challenging year - their first on the big field. They play according to the big field rules other than for two distance modifications for corners and goal kicks to facilitate their development.
It's a big step up and they've handled it well, especially considering their female participation rate is so high with the young ladies representing two thirds of the team! Fitting that the team is coached by a mother/daughter duo to boot. Their last match brought a 3-2 loss to Moss Vale with Jesse Hol bagging a double.
The U13s travelled to Hill Top for the early 8.30am kick off sans their coach and manager who were committed elsewhere. Backup coach Kurt took the reins to oversee their 11-2 win over Hill Top. Duke Garske hit 5 and Jesse Hol followed the example with a hat trick of his own. Hamish Chapman, Harry Eyding and Isabella Sola each added one to the tally.
The U13s are keen for their second finals series and are hoping to improve of their 2018 semi-final loss. They have one more round match this weekend to accommodate the number of rounds required to keep it even.
Our U15s team have had a tough season scoring wise but have retained their good quality of always seeing the positives throughout. It's a credit to their coach and those prior to produce such great attitudes in the players of our future. They went down 5-2 to Moss Vale in their last match with another double to Ethan Shobrook to round off his season tally.
The Youth Grade side met Bundanoon in their final round match, overcoming them 3-0 and moving into 3rd on the ladder. Will Hore hit a double and Mason King one. They meet Bundanoon again in their semi-final. We're pretty chuffed with their efforts in our first season with a youth grade side.
The Maroon ladies had their final bye of their season and a well-earned rest ahead of their finals campaign.
The Gold ladies met Minor Premiers Moss Vale White and had a hectic first half which included four goals against a scrambling defence and our goalie stuck in the goal net. Losing 4-0 at half time the team regrouped and conceded only one goal in the second half. It was a good example of how the team can pull together in the face of a tough opposition and a good lead in to their Premier League 1 semi-final match.
Very much the underdog in the top level finals series we're super proud of this second grade side and their efforts this season.
The Maroon men met Exeter for their final week and had a comfortable 8-1 win. Will Hore added to his tally for the day with a hat trick. The others were shared around with one each to Clay Caines, Alex Beben, Kobe Brown, Josh Zemljacenko and Dan Freere.
As 2019 Highlands League Minor Premiers they're keen for their finals series. But watch out - here come the Gold guys!
The Gold team met Yerrinbool with a chance to move from third on the ladder into second. We were all pretty keen to hear the result and the phones were running hot after their match.
A 2-0 win that gave them second place on the ladder and a position in the major semi-final - against the Maroon men! First and second on the ladder with one of them guaranteed a Grand Final appearance. Well done lads!
Hampden Park will host our semi-finals on Saturday 7th September and what a cracker of a day it will be! With Youth Grade kicking off the senior semis at 10.30am, followed by the Gold ladies, the men and then the Maroon ladies the club is pumped and hoping for a lot of maroon and gold local support.
Anything can happen in sports finals and we're hoping for some happy players at the end of the day, but are proud to see all five senior teams participate no matter the result.
