The 2019 Moss Vale Motor Group Challenge has been won by the dynamic duo of Mike Holmwood and Robin Staples. They celebrated in style along with their competitors at the Bowral Bowling Club.
Moss Vale Motor Group manager Brett Wardle said this competition is a hybrid of past events.
"The original competition started in 2009," Wardle said
"It was a different format which involved teams from outside of the Highlands competing. It was a one day event. This is the new format and it basically morphed from the old one."
Rain, strong winds and freezing conditions have battered the bowling boys over the competition's time. But that hasn't stopped them from getting out there and competing, and it hasn't gone unnoticed.
"This isn't the best time of year to get people out and about being active," Wardle said.
"It's great seeing local people supporting one another and the local club.
"Seeing them all supporting each other while playing the game they enjoy has been great. They've welcomed me into the group which has also been excellent."
The conclusion of the competition was a celebration at the Bowral Bowling Club with all competitors eating meals and relaxing with refreshments.
In their victory speech, Holmwood and Staples were humble with their words. They thanked everyone for competing and couldn't wait till next year. But for now they were content on relaxing in the moment.
"I feel quite exhausted to be honest," Holmwood said.
"We were pretty consistent throughout the competition and that paid off in the end. We had to keep ourselves relaxed. If you tense up, you don't bowl well. With my bowling arm I've got to keep it relaxed or I don't bowl up to scratch."
"It was great teaming up with Mike," Staples said.
"We've known each other for a long time. Hopefully we'll join forces again for the next competition and we'll get the win again."
Carl Spilker who placed third with teammate Kevin Stafford thanked everyone who participated.

"It was a great show of faces this year," Spilker said.
"We all had some good battles out there and congratulations to the winners."
With the competition being such a success, there is already demand for it to return next year. And the wheels are already in motion for that to happen.
"I've put my hand up for it to return," Wardle said.
"The players and the club have indicated to me that they want to continue the competition. Anyone that has a connection with their local bowing club would be mad not to join in next year.
"The future of this event will require a myriad of different skill levels.
"It's not about who wins, it's about the camaraderie and sportsmanship. Get involved."
