Presentation events for juniors and seniors, the finals series and a general reflection on the progress of the current season and even the next. It's a busy time for administrators with the regular season still in full swing plus the added extras.
Saturday, July 27 was business as usual with the juniors returning from the school holiday break. Of course some of them were still enjoying the break so coaches had the added juggle of sharing players to ensure they were able to field teams.
Hampden Park hosted home matches for most teams. It was a beautiful winters day - cosy and warm in the sun with a chilly breeze to keep the players from overheating.
The U12s team battled hard in a match that flowed back and forth, ultimately going down 4 - 3 to Yerrinbool.
This team has improved well during their first season on the big field. It's a pleasure to watch their team play, particularly with their high female player representation - twice as many young ladies as young men.
The U13s met Hill Top and came away with a strong 11 - 2 win.
Duke Garske bagged 5, Hamish Chapman 2 with one each to Joe Quilty, Jesse Hol, Harry Eyding and Beau Johansen.
Our U15s team travelled to Bundanoon and came home disappointed after a 9 - 0 loss.
The youth graders also travelled to Bundanoon, having one of those perplexing matches where they hit the net three times in the first half but none in the second.
Bundanoon maintained consistency and prevailed 4 - 3. The goals were shared between Brayden Boyan, Judah Wright and Clarry Christopherson.
The ladies teams met each other mid-week in a night match. It was an entertaining but competitive affair with the stronger Maroon team taking it out 6 - 0.
Erin Sommers of the Maroon team was a stand out with strong crosses into the box from the back line that made it difficult for the defence. Emma Green in goals for the Gold team had a cracker, throwing herself at everything and making some great saves.
Both teams were pleased with their play, in particular the Gold ladies after turning a four goal first half into a two goal second half. Olivia Wann hit two in the first half before moving into goals for the second and allowing Shenoah Furniss out to bag one of her own, along with one each to Natasha Wann, Erin Sommers and Jemma Coulter.
The men's Maroon team played in the 1pm time slot against Exeter, gaining a big 10 - 0 win.
Josh Zemljacenko bagged 4, with the others shared between Dan Freere, Steve Brown, KobeBrown, Alex Beben, Danny Hol and Jack Wicks.
The Gold men met Yerrinbool Black in a much tighter match, ultimately coming away with a 2 - 1 win.
Dhiogo Barcelos and Rudney Chimichek found the back of the net to get them over the line.
As we move into the final month of round matches things start to warm up for some teams and wind down for others. For club committees it starts to get properly hot - with events to arrange on top of the usual weeks of matches.
For our club we add to the load with our single annual fundraiser - our Rovers Race Night on August 17. It's a big load from an organisational perspective, but without it and other fundraisers we wouldn't be able to subsidise our fees, and in particular our junior fees.
Our efforts in fundraising allow us to not only provide the lowest junior fees possible, it also allows us to provide a free clothing item to each junior player every year.
Our Race Night is a cracker! Those attending get the perfect combination of dinner, entertainment and the comfort of knowing it's for a great cause. Our night supports not only our club but a charity chosen each year to receive the proceeds of various efforts, including a race dedicated to the charity.
This year we're supporting the McGrath Foundation in their quest to provide breast care nurses and we're asking those attending to add a touch of pink to their outfit and name their table after their breast cancer heroes.
We welcome all to the event and guarantee it's a fun night out with a fabulous meal from Peggy's Bistro. Bookings for tables or individuals can be made via the Robertson Bowling Club or any of our club committee members.
