Those abilities have now progressed and he's becoming a bright spot in the future of motocross.
Now at the ripe old age of 12, East Bowral's, Alex Codey began racing Motorcycle Australia sanctioned flat track events in late 2016.
He continued to progress throughout 2017 towards a full race setup with two purpose built competition race bikes for the 2018 season.
Alex travels along the East Coast to his club, the Central Coast Junior Motorcycle Club.
Reflecting on his achievements, Alex will never forget who helped him make his riding dreams come true.
"My dad got me into motorbike riding," Alex said.
"He used to race and then he showed me flat tracking and I really liked it. We started over two years ago and we've gone from there. He's helped me right through my racing career."
There has been a perfect start to 2019 for Alex with a win at the Kings and Queens Canberra Cup, and he's not done yet.
"I'm hoping for a great 2019," Alex said.
"I'd like to continue winning more titles and hopefully I can pick up top three in the state titles this year."
On his 2018 KTM 85sx (SW) motorbike, last September, Alex came sixth in the state titles.
Alex's dad, Mark Codey said it's a treat seeing his son race.
"Watching him race around the same tracks I did 36 years ago is a bit surreal," he said.
"Although, at his age he is much faster than I ever was."
At such a young age Alex has accomplished so much.
