Celebrating its 40th birthday, The Berrima District Sports Awards has been in existence since 1979 with the sole purpose of recognising and promoting the sporting talent in our local area.
"The evening overall was a very successful event and it's great to showcase the sporting talent of our district," Chairperson for the Berrima District Sports Awards, Ms Wendy Howard said.
"One of the main highlights for me was seeing the return of Glen Turner back to speak.
"Considering her was a junior achiever and past sportsperson of the year and has participated in sport on such a international scale, for him to come back and to be available to talk and pass on some of his knowledge is fantastic."
The process of picking award winners isn't taken lightly. Sporting resumes are combed over with a fine toothed comb with months of deliberation.
"It's a huge amount of work, there are a lot of meetings," Ms Howard said.
"There's many discussions and looking over sporting peoples resumes. We look at yearly sporting achievements also. The committee meets weekly during January to finally come up with a winner.
"It's done through a secret ballet, but we have numerous rounds of voting before we come to the final vote.
"We look for all round achievement and someone who has obviously done very well in their chosen sport. We also look at who has put time back into their sport as well as assisting up and coming youth sports people.
"We had a range of sports all the way up to wood chopping right through to your normal athletics. It's great to see such a wide range of sports showcased on the night."
