Southern Stars Bombers 7 - Campbelltown Cubs 12
After having the previous week off, the Stars travelled to Boggabilla Reserve, Lansdowne for a game which had to be won to keep the chance of a finals appearance alive.
Taking to the diamond with only eight players, the Bombers found themselves down by five fairly swiftly but levelled up off the back of some fast but inaccurate Cubs pitching.
The 2nd inning was much better for the Stars side, nudging in front through great fielding which featured a smooth 'double play'.
The Cubs hit their straps again in the 3rd inning, ending the last game of the regular season with a strong batting performance, keeping the Bombers scoreless for the remainder of the match.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
Steve Pettit is rarely out of the highlights and this game proved no exception. Despite a bad knee, Steve is always good for a solid fielding effort and this week managed a fantastic pick up at Short Stop, tagging a runner before finishing the double play at 2nd Base.
Brothers Guy and Kurt Farrugia once again showed they are an outfield to be reckoned with, each picking up great catches off the big hitting Cubs.
Kurt also pulled the best hit of the night with a 'double' to Centre Field in a game which featured an above average number of 'Hit By Pitch' and 'walks'.
SATURDAY SENIORS DIVISION 2
Southern Stars Shelbys 10 - Black Sox 8
The Shelbys and the young Black Sox side met at Jurd Park for a friendly and enjoyable game on Saturday.
Both teams were kept scoreless during the 1st inning before the Shelbys found their bats, picking up four in the 2nd while again keeping the Sox scoreless.
The situation reversed in the 3rd and it looked like the game would go down to the wire.
The Stars produced the goods with the bat in the final inning though, and closed the younger side down for the win.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
Aiden Martin's recent batting form continued into this week, the big hitter turning a massive triple base hit into a 'home run' off a fielding error in the 4th inning.
Dylan Allan ably supported the run chase with two 'doubles' during the match.
The Pitchers stayed on top of the Black Sox throughout the tie, Andrew Glassington throwing only nine and seven pitches respectively to keep the opposition scoreless in the first two innings.
Martin once again gave solid support, pitching more than double the amount of strikes than balls in the final inning.
While the score book shows two single base hits to his credit, David Weblin had a very solid day out with the bat, contributing his hits at critical times to get the run tally moving.
