Harold Wall and Bob Edwards defeated Richard Denman and Dennis Beatty 20-15. After nine ends, Wall and Edwards held a 8-3 lead, with both players having trust in each other’s play.
To ensure the game finished close, Denman and Beatty came back strong in the second half and on the 19th end had in fact taken the lead 15-13. But promptly Wall and Edwards hit back, scoring four on the 20th end and three shots on the last end to come away five shot winners.
Ted McPhee and Robin Staples defeated Brian Bailey and Clive Neutze 21-16.
Skipper Robin Staples said he was happy with the win as he was playing with a new bowler. McPhee and Staples had a big lead after ten ends and the outcome looked to be a solid win, showing 14-3 in their favour.
In the second half, Bailey and Neutze made use of new tactics and this got them back into the game and could have won it. But McPhee and Staples hung on for a five shot win.
