This week’s results in B grade saw a top of the table clash between front runner’s Horton's Heroes and second placed Mariners.
Horton's Heroes defeated Mariners, 4-1 in a close match.
The score was 1-0 at the end of the first period, with Noah Ford finding his way past the Mariner’s goalkeeper with a great shot. Horton’s Heroes stepped up the pressure in the second period taking the score out to 3-0 at halftime, after scoring shots from Jon Jamieson and Austin Lockhart.
The Mariners responded in the third quarter, as Mariner’s Tasman Reedie scored but Jon Jamieson scored again to give Horton’s Heroes back their three goal advantage.
Neither team could break the defence in the final period for the final 4-1 score line.
Dolphins defeated Polar Bears, 5- 4 in a very close match.
The scores were locked at 1-1 at the end of the first period, after goals to Lauren Cameron for the Polar Bears and Hamish Barber for Dolphins.
In the second period Dolphins pinched a break after Hamish Barber scored again for them and Polar Bears were unable to find the net. The period after halftime saw both teams score two goals Hamish Te A Me and Hal Canute scoring for Dolphins and Luc Puchert and Karl Nurse finding the net for Polar Bears.
Dolphins held on grimly in the final quarter with neither team being able to score for the 5-4 win.
In the most local Derby Oxley Blue defeated Oxley Gold 4-2.
There hasn’t been anything between these teams all season and this match was no different. The first quarter was close with both teams having chances saved through good defence , Jock Heinrich managed to break through for Oxley Gold to give them a 1-0 lead.
In the second period Oxley Blue levelled up for a half time deadlock 1-1, through a Tijmen Regan goal.
The situation was the same in the third period with both Jock and Tijmen scoring again for a 3-3 score line going into the final quarter.
It was Oxley Blue who were able to lift, Tijmen Regan netted his third goal for the match and Jasmine Irving contributed to seal the match for Oxley Blue 4-2.
In A Grade, Polar Bears defeated Sharks 4-2.
The first quarter was scoreless with both teams mounting some good attack that was met by equally good defence.
In the second period Emma Maddox for Sharks and Scott McClean for Polar Bears set up an exciting second half, with a 1-1 halftime score.
Polar Bears came out strongly after the main break with two unanswered goals to Harrison McClean and Marco Basaglia.
Sharks tried hard in the final period with Miles Lochhead being rewarded with a goal for Sharks. Jeremy Regan made sure that Polar Bears weren’t under pressure for too long with a good goal, to seal the match for Polar Bears 4-2.
In the other A grade game, Dolphins defeated Mariners, 6-4 in another close game.
Mariners were the first to score through Daniel Sellers, while Dolphins were kept scoreless.
The second period was a different story with Daniel Barnes scoring two and Chelsea Flood another for Dolphins. Mariners were able to score one through Alexandra McCue to trail by one going into halftime 2-3.
Dolphins kept up the pressure with Daniel Barnes adding another goal, with Ben Canute chiming in with a double. Alexandra McCue added another to the Mariners score to see them still in the contest at 3-6.
The Mariners tried hard to come back at Dolphins and their efforts were rewarded with a Matt Bow goal but they were unable to erode the Dolphins lead any further, for the 6-4 final score line.
