The very first competition of basketball games were played in the new multi purpose hall.
There was a real sense of nervous excitement for the players and all spectators and students who came to watch were suitably impressed.
The first match of the day was the Chev’ girls first grade v Oakhill.
The game was preceded with few formalities and welcomes with project manager, Peter Eustace cutting the ribbon to open proceedings.
The official opening of the new MPH will take place later this year on Sacred Heart Day.
The Chev girls opened the scoring with Summer Lewis being the first ever point scorer.
Summer went on to have a great match and was well supported by Georgie Mitchell and Olivia Daley.
The girls were always in front but could not gain a big lead over a very enthusiastic opposition team.
The final winning margin ended up being 10 points.
The next team on court were the second grade girls who also ended up with a victory in a low scoring game.
Some wise words from assistant coach Hargreaves put the girls on the right track and Sophie Irvine dominated on the scoreboard.
The 17A boys had a close contest against top of the table Oakhill and managed to hang on to a lead to get home by four points.
It was great to see Jonah Elias back on court and Liam Clunn also played well.
The boys first grade was the final match of the day on the new court and began the new year very impressively.
Eddie Bradman was the first scorer in this game and was well supported during the game by Izaack Burke, Jarrod Cook and Spencer Reed.
Over in the Ched the other Basketball matches were played at school.
The junior girls commenced the day against Blue Mountains and both teams had good wins.
For the A team, Sienna Rossi and Sarah Bull went well and Olivia Hovey and Tea Tamehana top scored for the B team.
In the Boys matches, all games were close.
The 13’s ended up in front by nine with Tyson McClelland and Curtis Boese netting their shots.
The 14’s ended ahead by six thanks mainly to Charlie Philp and Matt Butcher.
The 15’s match was the closest of the day with Chev’ scraping home on the whistle by one point.
Warwick Preston and Oliver Kingwill were the two main scorers in a nail-biter.
It was a great start to the new year for the Chev teams at home who all ended up winners.
In other sports played on Saturday the cricket at Chev was unfortunately drizzle affected with wet conditions preventing any play.
The seconds travelled to Bathurst and performed quite well for their first game back together.
Nick Colgan top scored and all took three wickets in an all round effort.
The senior softball team travelled to St Paul's and came up against a very accurate and fast pitcher.
Eryn Rhynart batted and Clare Rhodes pitched well for the Chev second girls.
The touch football girls at Macquarie Uni played in soggy conditions and had a mixture of results.
All in all a good start back to the ISA season.
