In the Lee Richard Cup, Division 2 the Southern Stars Bombers defeated Bankstown Sports, 14 - 12.
We are now back into the second half of the 2018-19 Summer season and part two of the season began with light misty rain at Daruk Park, Casula.
Wet weather games are starting to become a tradition when the Stars meet Bankstown.
Again fielding just the minimum seven players, early doubts were quickly overcome as the Bombers dug in hard with their bats, the two sides going blow for blow with each innings.
It became evident the win would go to whichever side held the course in the field and that ended up being the Bombers, this important early win strengthening finals chances.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
The Stars' collective batting power was on display throughout, with all players registering at least one hit and a run each.
Ramon Perez yet again produced a massive triple to open the account in the 1st, and after making little impact to that point (and with the game already in the bag), the VP decided to put in at the end via a triple with bases loaded.
Recovering from recent surgery, Guy took to the field and cautiously made his way around the diamond, still making an impact despite being slowed down considerably.
Ramon was also again making his presence know in the field.
His powerful arm at second and at short stop made the Bankstown runners look twice before trying for extra bases.
Aiden Martin pitched out the full game, with his side arm style keeping Bankstown's batters on their toes.
One strikeout was an unrepresentative return for the quality pitching in the increasingly soggy conditions.
Guy Farrugia, who regularly features in the highlights, receives a special mention this week.
Recovering from recent surgery, Guy took to the field and cautiously made his way around the diamond, still making an impact despite being slowed down considerably.
SATURDAY DIVISION 2
Unfortunately the Southern Stars Shelby's registered a third forfeit in a row, the season now fast slipping away from the side.
For the next two Saturdays, the Shelby's will be playing at Jurd Park in Colo Vale.
Game times being at 12.45 pm one February 9 and the second game will commence at 12.30 pm on February 16.
The Shelby's will play one more match after their fortnight stay at Jurd Park and then the finals will begin.
With the Shelby's recording their third forfeit in a row due to players being unavailable, they will need to make this Jurd Park stay a productive one.
