Having taken her award-winning show across the globe, Bron takes modern romance to the next level – all while in front of an audience.
Bron’s show consists of her going on first dates, live onstage. The show has the potential to witness true love bloom, or crash and burn.
“Dating is such a public thing anyway,” Batten said.
“With online dating your profile can be viewed by anyone, so it seemed like a logical step (for me) to do it on stage and look at the process in real time then see what happens.”
On stage, Batten takes her date through various activities. They start off with a drink and a chat, partake in games, then things get a little more intimate towards the end of the show.
“I don’t drag people up on stage during the show,” Batten said.
“People sign up before the show with a questionnaire, so don’t be worried about being pulled on stage. It’s a really fun process picking the participate and they seem to have a really great time.
“The show is designed to make them the star.”
If you’re thinking about volunteering, leave the act at home. The best result for yourself and the show is to be yourself.
“I’m looking for someone who is an ordinary, genuine and an honest person who’s going to answer the questions truthfully,” Batten said.
“The conversation is made of up 36 psychology questions that people could use to make someone fall in love with them. It’s just a test to see whether it works, it’s a playful exportation of that.
“The thing that can make the show awkward is when people try and forcefully be funny, or when they thought they wanted to volunteer but then don’t want to be on stage.
“I think when people come up on stage, have a chat with me and they’re themselves, you can’t lose.
“The audiences will love you. The show is about giving people a chance. Online dating can help us to be quite superficial and discount people very quickly.
“My favorite dates are when someone reveals something vulnerable about themselves and takes that risk, it’s a really rewarding experience for me to have someone feel safe enough to open up and expose themselves a bit.”
Bron Batten’s ‘Onstage Dating’ will be showing at the Mittagong Playhouse, Friday 8 and Saturday 9 in February.
Doors are at 8 pm and tickets are $40.
