The cup will be waged annually in memory of the much loved and respected Karen Dixon.
Brent Marvin, Warren Dixon and Justin Luff played integral parts in the organization of this initiative.
The success of the occasion was contingent to the pairing of the visitors with the locals. Enjoyable, competitive tennis was resultant. Local pairings produced some stiff opposition too. These included Stephen Day, Scott Kelly, Doug Matley and Steve Brabyn.
Bundanoon players extend their appreciation to the Sydney based player and local businessman Brent Marvin for his generosity in including the local players and their families in dinner festivities on the Saturday night.
The successful team, of Alan Rae and Greg Price, were congratulated on a thoroughly deserved win.
My final’s partner, Yvonne Stanton is deserving of a special mention. Yvonne plays in NSW Seniors and Tennis competitions. She has held both state and national titles. It was a most delightful experience playing with such a champion.
Throughout the day, Yvonne was a dominant master of consistency. She went against some stiff opposition in the final, and she unleashed a battery of deft placements and power hitting. In this closely contested set, spectators were treated to a most thrilling culmination of events.
District tennis has surely been re-invigorated and future opportunities are being investigated.
Placing social and achievement outcomes aside, the final produced the most salient outcome of all. It rekindled fond memories of Warren’s wife in the mind of her friends and loved ones. It was with and against the champion Yvonne Stanton that Karen played much of her tennis.
