This community event will celebrate the use of solar power and renewable energy. The very exciting part of the event will be creating a giant solar-powered footprint in an attempt to set a record with the Guinness World Records.
Our target is to have 1500 solar powered lights displayed in the shape of a footprint that can be documented, photographed from a drone and sent to the Guinness World Records in an attempt to create the world’s largest solar-powered lantern footprint.
We are engaging with local schools to have kids make solar lights to bring to the event.
We encourage members of the community to bring along a commercially available solar light or two to include in the footprint. On the night, there will be a solar light-making workshop for children between ages four and 10 years. A solar lantern parade will occur before the display of the footprint is set up. Don’t forget, lights go out at 8.30pm for Earth Hour.
SHBG and WSC are very excited about this event and hope many members of the community can come to join us. Refreshments will be available, but you can bring a picnic. The event is free, but we always appreciate a donation to the garden as you enter.
Watch out for further information on this big community event and come and join in.
