The Mittagong Hockey Club committee members, junior players, parents and coaches gathered at the Tourist Road Oval on Saturday, October 6 for a barbecue picnic, games and presentation.

During the 2018 winter hockey season the club was represented by 145 children across 13 teams ranging in age from under-7 to 15 years.
All the juniors were presented their team photos with the under-7 and under-9 teams all being recipients of a medallion in recognition of their participation.
The under-11, 13 and 15 age groups were awarded best and fairest and coach’s encouragement awards.
Mittagong’s developing umpires were also on hand to receive appreciation and acknowledgement from the club’s committee and members. The club is looking forward to continuing to support and educate its juniors to gain umpiring skills to support the club and association.

The senior presentation was held at the Mittagong RSL and was well attended by past, present and future players and their families.
In the past season the club was represented by five senior teams, two in the ladies and three teams in the men’s competition. Team awards were presented throughout the evening:
- Third grade men Panthers best and fairest: Harry Miller
- Second grade Tigers ladies best and fairest and SHHA best and fairest: Jacquie Smith
- Second grade Tigers men best and fairest: Mike Kracht
- First grade women Lions Shirley Wright best and fairest award: Rebecca Cross
- First grade men Lions Dick Todd best and fairest trophy: Nelson Worner
Towards the end of the evening club awards were handed out with the 2018 winners of the Eric Scholarship announced.
Jacqui Smith was on hand to be presented with her award by Tony O’Brien.
With the sport of hockey being a game for all ages, players are acknowledged for reaching significant milestones. Reaching 100 senior games during 2018 was Holly Thompson and Mark Chadwick was recognised for clocking up a whopping 500 games.
The highly prized Most Outstanding under-21 female player was awarded to Sienna Knowles while the always hotly contested Lloyd Byron Most Outstanding under-21 male player was awarded to Harry Miller.
The club’s Most Outstanding Player award was presented to Rebecca Cross and the Most Outstanding Male player was awarded to Nelson Worner
Mittagong Hockey Club believes in recognising and celebrating players of all ages and this year was no different with the,” Still Striking the ball at 60” award being presented to Claire Stafford.
Claire is the first of the ladies in the club history to reach this significant milestone.
The 2018 Clubperson of the Year was awarded to Denise Horvath for her tireless work as the club’s Junior Coordinatior. Denise’s dedication to her club, players, parents and supporters has enabled Mittagong’s junior numbers grow and remain strong throughout the 10 years she has held the position. All involved in the club value the wonderful contribution she makes to the sport, the association and the Mittagong club.
As further acknowledgement to how highly regarded and appreciated Denise is within the club, she was also presented with the highly regarded and valued award of a Life Membership of the club.
In closing the formalities president Glenn Fleming thanked all his committee members, helpers, players and supporters for their continued contribution to the club.
