Just prior to going on stage for their regular, Tuesday evening rehearsal, they were made aware that something extraordinary was about to take place and a very special visitor would be soon arriving to speak to them.
When the identity of this unexpected visitor was revealed as being Mr Nicholas Hammond, long-time local resident and star of the original, 1965 film The Sound of Music, the children, as well as the adults gathered inside the Playhouse, were absolutely delighted.
As they listened to Mr. Hammond’s memories about the making of the film and some of his experiences as a child actor during that time, they were clearly captivated.

It was inspiring to learn, that many of the film’s original cast remain in regular contact and also to hear about the meetings that had once taken place between Mr Hammond and the real von Trapp family.
This of course, gave rise to many questions from the HTG cast, which Mr Hammond was happy to answer.
The Highlands Theatre Group inc. is extremely grateful to Mr Hammond for being so generous with his time and for providing a once in a lifetime experience for its members and all those associated with the local production of The Sound of Music.
