Mackayla, Chloe and Akiko from Bowral High and Moss Vale High did just that.
I would like to bring to your attention to two of the youth programs that Rotary offer our local students.
RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) is a weekend residential experience for youth aged 14-16 years designed to develop skills that will assist them in the transition to adulthood.
Participants are involved in a variety of workshops and activities, which provide an opportunity for them to personally develop, gain confidence, communication skills, challenge themselves, build friendships, and develop life skills.
They do not have to be outstanding students, but young people who would benefit from being able to develop their personal qualities and skills.
The Rotary Club of Bowral-Mittagong each year send students from our local high schools to these workshops and each year the students come back praising the skills they have learnt.
Secondly, there is the Four Way Test Speech competition.
The aim of the competition is to provide Year 10 students with an opportunity to compete in a public speaking competition, thereby fostering excellence in the art of public speaking and developing the confidence and self-esteem of participating students.
It also provides an opportunity for students to test their skills before an audience and to bring the concepts of the Rotary Four Way Test to the attention of students.
Each participant may choose their own topic, but the four way principles of the Rotary Four Way Test must be explored: is it the truth; is it fair to all concerned; will it build goodwill and better friendships; will it be beneficial to all concerned.
