Lachlan was recently named the Berrima District Sports Awards junior sportsperson for July.
He began racing Go-Carts at the age of 10 and last year moved to compete in the NSW State Formula Ford Series where he won the last round of the series.
The move was only a temporary one, as this year he began racing up to 34 other teams in the Australian National Formula Ford Series.
It is an open division and most drivers are around 18–21 years of age.
Lachlan was nominated for the BDSA award for his eighth placing in round four at the Sandown Raceway in Melbourne but is currently placed sixth in the championship.
There are seven rounds in the series in four states of Australia.
Speaking to Lachlan, he uses the words ‘we ’and óur’ and proudly talks about the team he works with.
He races with Colin Hill Engineering and is supported by a driving coach, an engineer and two mechanics.
He is grateful they transport the car to the track and prepare it for racing so that he just needs to take the Friday off school before the race to practice, ready to compete over the weekend.
He has the support of his school, Oxley College and is also well supported on the home front as his father travels with him to each race and his mother and three younger siblings join him for at least half of the races.
During July, the Berrima District Sports Awards senior winner, Karen Evans competed in the UCI Mountain Biking Masters World Championship in Vallnord, Andorra, Spain.
This was the second time she had represented Australia and this year placed sixth in the Masters 5 category.
Karen is the current XCM Masters 5 Australian National Champion and is very generous with her time training many local children including her two daughters who are both national champions.
She is a member of the Fixed Wheel Bowral Race team and is as passionate about her dreams as she is of her teammates and the young people she trains.
