Louisa Atkinson watercolour – The Possum continues to take pride of place in the mansion. The significant painting by the noted botanist, journalist, novelist and artist of the mid-1900s can be viewed for a limited time.
Many of Louisa's works are held by the NSW State Library but the ‘The Study of a Possum’ was gifted to the National Trust by Janet Cosh, Louisa’s granddaughter, a long-time Moss Vale resident.
It hung in Old Government House for several years and has recently been restored and re-framed.
Harpers Mansion is also offering a stunning showcase in the two-acre garden with displays of daffodils, snowflakes and hellebores.
Open every weekend from 10.30am to 4.00pm you can enjoy the display of flowers, explore the maze and learn about the colonial history. Bring a picnic - and warm clothes. Entry to the house, garden and maze is $8. Children are free.
