For the past six months, a dog named Bing has been visiting patients at the ward, to provide company, smiles and laughter.
Bing’s visits were the result of Moss Vale Hospital Auxiliary’s fundraising efforts, and due to the overwhelming success, the Auxiliary have decided to keep Bing’s visits going for a further 12 months.
Auxiliary member Jenny Sheerman said Bing’s visits had been very beneficial for patients.
“It’s something [for them] to look forward to each week,” she said.
“It takes patients’ minds off being in hospital.”
Founded in 1927, the Auxiliary’s purpose is to raise funds to buy additional equipment for the hospital.
The auxiliary holds several events every year to raise money for the hospital and each year raises between $7000 and $10000.
Moss Vale Hospital Auxiliary is keen to welcome new members.
Meetings and functions are held once a month.
