Now in its 12th year, the 2018 Autumn Music Festival will feature events offered at both Bowral’s St Jude’s Church and Mittagong Playhouse.
Artistic director Myee Clohessy has promised every concert will have something special and said she had purposely chosen eight concerts that were very different from one another.
“I want to give Highlanders the opportunity to hear Australia’s top performers right here on our doorstop, in a wonderful, festive atmosphere,” she said.
“I think people don’t realise how touching and moving music is until they sit down in a seat and really listen.”
The festival will bring together many renowned musicians and promises an impressive array of choice for music lovers in the Highlands.
With the youngest performer aged 15, and the oldest, aged 80, the festival will offer entertainment for all ages.
The festival will kick off on Friday, March 23 at 1pm, as soprano Ayse Goknur Shanal and harpist Verna Lee weave their way through a delicious program of French, Russian, Turkish and Spanish delights.
The melodic day will continue with a performance by 15-year-old cellist Makita Mizushima who was the first-prize winner of the 2016 Sydney Organ Competition.
Makita will perform an impressive recital of pieces by J.S.Bach, Hindemith, Franz Liszt, and Camille Saint-Saens.
The final concert will be held on Sunday, March 25 at 2pm, as Acacia Quartet present the world premier of the ‘String Quartet No 1’. This is by Australian composer John Peterson.
It will be played alongside the soothing sounds of Puccini’s melancholic ‘Crisantemi,’ and the vibrant, comic-opera-like ‘Italian Serenade.’
“There will be so much beauty in the next three days that will move people and have them in tears,” Myee promised.
“People don’t know what they’re missing out on,” she said.
A full series subscription is on offer for all eight concerts with reserved seating available, while individual admission to the concerts is also available.
