The third grade team will compete in the group six second division competition in 2018.
Bowral Blues secretary Mark Williams said there was a strong expression of interest for a team this year.
“We’re sitting around the 20 player mark. We’d like 25 players in case there’s injuries,” Williams said.
“There was no team last year. It’s been a struggle.”
Williams said fielding a team this year required a left-field approach.
“We had an idea, there was a lot in the area that could play but didn’t have the time,” he said.
“We’ve gone with a left-field approach. We’re targeting a different market, one that’s a bit more relaxed and social.”
The majority of players in the team previously played junior football but stopped due to other commitments.
The team will offer players the opportunity to be involved in a competition and make like-minded friends.
“It’s more about the social side. We want to play some serious football, but just not have to be 100 per cent committed to the sport,” Williams said.
“We want to be competitive in second grade, but it’s about mateship.”
The team trains at Loseby Park at 6pm on Thursday nights.
The Bowral Blues will play a derby trial game against the Robertson Spuddies at Loseby Park at 6pm on Saturday, March 24.
After the game there will be a Bowral Blues season launch with refreshments, membership auctions and announcements at 7.30pm.
There will also be training merchandise available on the night.
