92.5FM Youth Radio is a non-profit community radio station located in the heart of Bowral.
The station aims to provide quality music, news and entertainment to the youth of the Southern Highlands.
The station provides a medium for teens and young adults to share their voice and offers them a chance to gain skills in the broadcasting industry, providing valuable skills for the workforce.
This year, the station hopes to set up a Youth Advisory Committee
92.5FM Youth Radio director Joseph Lyons said the committee would give direction to the board.
“Having a youth committee will mean that they can give more direction on what we play on the radio and what they would like in terms of music and programs,” he said.
“It’s a really great opportunity for young people to get involved.”
The station is trying to produce more local shows and those between the age of 15 and 24 have been encouraged to get involved.
“We would love to have as many local shows as possible and as many young presenters as possible,” Mr Lyons said.
The station is hoping to make some big changes this year, and Mr Lyons has called out to the community for assistance.
“We are hoping to work with venues to promote live events and we would love Highlands’ musical talent to contact us so we can start more live on air music,” he said.
In the months to come, the station is also hoping to introduce a training program so young people can achieve a certificate after their time at Youth Radio.
Station chair Terry Oakes Ash recently stood down and was nominated and elected as a director.
Mr Oakes Ash position as chair was replaced by Joe Panetta, who has training and media experience.
“We are very excited to have Joe on board, he has a lot of really valuable knowledge to pass on,” Mr Lyons said.
Bob Barrett, Steven Peacock, Judith Brooks and Debra Blackah will be stepping down from their role as directors, while Mark Populin and Joseph Lyons will continue in their roles as directors for their third year.
Steven Horton has also been elected as a director and Louisa Graham was appointed as public officer.
The station is also after a new secretary to join the Youth Radio team.
“It can be anybody from any age group and they don’t need any former experience,” Mr Lyons said.
Mr Lyons said the station would also welcome any donations that could assist with upgrading equipment for the studio.
