A council spokesperson said the main was “being charged with water and residents should be back in supply.”
Crews are currently still on the ground in Moss Vale undertaking “flushing” around the town to remove any last incidents of discolouration.
Council has established “boundary valves” around the town to ensure any incidents of discoloured water are minimised as we head into tonight’s evening peak demand.
These boundary valves will be slowly closed overnight and the original ‘boundary zone’ will be re-established tomorrow after morning peak.
EARLIER: There is a major water outage in Moss Vale this morning, Monday March 12.
Contractors ruptured a major 300mm water main leading from one of Moss Vale’s reservoirs at approximately 8.45am this morning.
This is a considerable water main and will result in water loss for much of Moss Vale including Yarrawa, Baker, Browley, Darraby, Caber, Vale View, Daylsford, Paul, Chapman, Merrett, Joseph Hollins, Spencerand Argyle streets.
Council crews are currently on site tending to the problem.
At this stage the outage duration is unknown.
A council spokesperson said crews have isolated the 300mm trunk main and repairs have begun.
“To minimise disruption the teams have effectively re-routed water from neighbouring reservoirs,” the said.
“This will mean that some residents will now have water back on – but at a much lower pressure than normal until the break is repaired.”
Due to the re-zoning and re-pressuring of these water mains, it is highly likely that customers may experience temporary water discolouration.
“Three council crews are currently working on the problem which includes, re-valving, repairs and flushing water mains, this was water main break was not the result of council,” the spokesperson said.
