Council will host two free waste wise workshops on Tuesday, March 20 and Tuesday, April 10 at Council’s Resource Recovery Centre (RRC).
The Can We Recycle Soft Plastics workshops both start at 10am.
Council’s Waste Education Officer, Libby Guest said when it comes to soft plastic recycling, the message has been confusing.
“The most common recycling mistake is throwing in soft plastics such as plastic bags and food packaging in with the rest of your plastic containers,” she said.
“While plastic bags and other soft plastic is sometimes made from recyclable content, their lightweight nature often results in them getting caught around moving machine parts, causing machines to jam.”
Soft plastics and other household problem waste can be recycled for free at the RRC.
Visit www.wsc.nsw.gov.au/community-recycling-centre to view the full list of recyclable items accepted for free at the Community Recycling Centre.
The presentation will provide practical advice on sorting soft plastics and diverting these items from landfill.
Residents are also encouraged to bring along their soft plastics for sorting on the day.
Following the workshop residents are invited to a tour of the Resource Recovery Centre at 10.45am.
Discover what happens to your waste once it leaves the kerb, how green waste is processed and learn about what items can and can’t be recycled and why.
Bookings are essential.
A small amount of walking is required by participants on the tour. Enclosed footwear must be worn as the RRC is an active worksite.
Book for either or both sessions by calling council’s Waste Education Officer on 4868 0888 or email waste.education@wsc.nsw.gov.au.
