Cast members Lea DeLaria (Big Boo), Yael Stone (Lorna Morello) and Danielle Brooks (Taystee) were in Australia along with a host of other Netflix stars to attend the Mardi Gras this weekend.
Knowing her now wife, Wollongong lactation consultant Louise David, was a massive fan of the show, Tegan Mattila planned the surprise appearance.
A video documenting the occasion posted to the Netflix Facebook page has gone viral, with more than 500,000 views and 10,000 reactions.
“Hey bitches, we’re here in Australia for Mardi Gras,” Ms DeLaria says.
"And we heard some fans were getting married," Australian actress,” Ms Stone says.
"And we 'bout to crash that mother..." Ms Brooks adds.
After the ceremony, guests were asked to welcome “a very special guest” as Ms DeLaria appeared.
Hugging a surprised Ms David, she then announces “a couple of other friends” will be joining the fun.
“We are just so excited to be here, congratulations,” Ms Brookes says.
Later, Ms Stone was filmed telling the couple and their guests, “as an Australian, we’ve waited a long time” for same-sex marriage to be legal.
“We’re really, really proud that we can be here and celebrate you guys individually and celebrate this change across this beautiful country that needed to change,” she said.
“This is a beautiful moment, thank you for sharing it with us.”
Ms DeLaria then serenaded the couple and wedding guests with a rendition of Ella Fitzgerald’s Taking A Chance On Love.
