Council’s Road Safety Officer Melanie Lausz said Road Rules Awareness Week was the perfect opportunity for all drivers to reflect and improve on their driving habits.
“Motorists, passengers, cyclists and pedestrians all have a shared responsibility when using the road,” she said. “It’s up to all of us to do the right thing and ensure we keep our roads safe for all users.”
The NSW Government’s Yeah...But road safety campaign launched late last year highlights the consequences if excuses are made on the road.
“The choices we all make behind the wheel need to be smarter and safer if we’re to move towards a zero road toll,” Ms Lausz said.
“Any death or serious injury on our roads is ultimately too many.”
As part of this year’s campaign, road users have the opportunity to improve their knowledge of road rules and learn about new safety measures.
“Many drivers study the road rules when they sit for their initial driver’s licence,” Ms Lausz said.
“But refreshing our knowledge of existing rules and learning the details of new or changed rules can be just as important.”
“Not-so-long ago rules surrounding mobile phones were non-existent,” she said.
“And with new rules being introduced on a regular basis now is the perfect time to brush-up on these skills.”

Road Rules Awareness Week will be held from Monday, February 26 through until Sunday, March 4.
