Contrary to recent speculation surrounding the demise of player registrations across the Southern Highlands, the Lions are in fact stronger than ever. Following on from a stellar 2017 season which saw the junior club’s registration numbers at an all-time high – fielding 23 teams across Under 6’s through to U16’s – as well as five junior teams qualifying for semi-finals, and three teams subsequently playing in Grand Finals – it’s safe to say that Mittagong Lions are far from struggling with participation rates.
Not only are the Lions successful on-field, the junior club, in conjunction with the senior club, have implemented a ‘Pathways Program’.
This involves the U16’s players experiencing what it’s like to play in the senior ranks. The U16’s spend time training with the U18’s, Reserve Grade and first Grade squads, and take part in a game day experience with the seniors, where they sit in on the pre-game and post-game coaches address’.
Contrary to recent speculation... the Lions are in fact stronger than ever.

This program has proven extremely successful in assisting our junior players transition into the senior system. In addition to the Pathways Program, the junior club hold a number of educational nights for the players – including but not limited to – nutrition nights and social media education.
To further drive home the prosperity at the Mittagong Lions, the Senior club had a triumphant season in 2017.
The year saw our first Grade squad qualify for semi-finals following a two-year hiatus. Our Reserve Grade won both the Minor Premiership (recording only one loss against their name throughout the season) and in-turn, winning the Grand Final in front of a packed house at Campbelltown Stadium. Along with the success of our Reserve and first Grade teams, the club was also very proud of our U18’s, who just missed out on a finals berth. We’re also proud of our Ladies League Tag team who fought hard all season. Mittagong Juniors are anticipating upwards of 250 players in 2018, and the Senior club will field teams in all major competitions (U18’s, Ladies League Tag, Reserve Grade and 1 st Grade).
