The man, and a woman who was later released without charge, were arrested when the Subaru Forester they were travelling in got stuck in traffic on Keira Street, a NSW Police spokeswoman said.
Early Thursday morning, a Subaru Forrester was involved in a pursuit with police through Robertson. Due to erratic and dangerous driving the pursuit was terminated, police said.
The vehicle was sighted again at 8.20am on the Illawarra Highway, Albion Park. It was involved in three separate pursuits across the Lake Illawarra police district, which were all terminated due to safety concerns.
About 2.15pm police spotted the vehicle traveling north on Corrimal Street, Wollongong.
A 35-year-old man from Victoria and a 32-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Wollongong police station.
The man was charged with three counts of police pursuit – not stop (Skye’s Law), dangerous driving, not keep left of dividing lane and a number of speeding offences, including for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, and not stop vehicle when directed to do so.
He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Friday.
The woman was released without charge pending further inquiries.
A police car involved in the Wollongong CBD operation had to be towed after it rolled down Keira Street, across Burelli Street and struck a traffic light pole at the intersection of the two streets.
The car was unoccupied.
No one was injured in the incident.
