While she was excited for her birthday, Norma said the age of 84 felt much the same as 83.
“It’s no different to any other age, I still want to do all the same things,” she said.
Norma moved to Berrima when she was 18 where she met her husband Neville.
“We got married very soon after,” she said.
The pair were married on January 14, 1953 and Norma described Neville as “a marvelous person.”
The couple had four children together, and now Norma has 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Norma also has strong connections to Bowral Public School where she worked as a cleaner for 20 years.
She worked split shifts, working before the students arrived and after the children left. During the day she would prepare a meal for dinner and Neville would put it in the oven to cook while she was gone.
“Lucky I picked a good one,” Norma said.
Norma is a resident at Anthem Care in Bowral and still helps out where she can.
“I help with the seeping every morning,” she said.
“I just don’t get paid for it anymore!”
Norma’s family will visit Anthem Care on February 27 to celebrate with her, and one of her daughter’s is making a tasty cake for them all to share.
