Renowned historian and the Berrima District Historical Society’s archivist Linda Emery will present No 11 in the popular series ‘Captured in the Light’ at the next society presentation.
The presentation is part of Ms Emery’s annual showcase of selected images from the BDHS photo collection. For each image she recounts stories of the history revealed and traces family connections of the people involved.
This year Ms Emery will also include two rare selections from the society’s extensive collection of artworks.
These will serve to highlight an upcoming art exhibition on display during March in the Wingecarribee Shire Council Foyer Gallery, under the title ‘Our Creative Past’.
One selection Linda will speak about is a rare 1814/15 passport which reveals some fascinating journeys, including to Italy at the time of Napoleon and the Battle of Waterloo.
The other is a poignant embroidery from 1855 titled ‘The Mother’s Grave: a child’s lamentation’.
Ms Emery’s presentation will also feature a preview of the BDHS exhibition in March. The exhibition will include drawings, water colour and oil paintings, photographs and illuminated addresses.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend the history presentation. Afternoon tea will be provided.
The presentation will be held at the society’s research centre, Old Council Chambers, Bowral Road, Mittagong. It will begin at 2pm.
