The Southern Highlands Evening VIEW Club will be hold its next dinner meeting on February 12 at the Mittagong RSL Club. Special guest will be new zone councillor Deborah Chivers. Annual subs are due and there will also be the chance to hear about and make plans for club fundraising activities to support the programs of The Smith Family that help disadvantaged Australian children with their education. Shrove Tuesday
The Mittagong Uniting Church will celebrate Shrove Tuesday on February 13. This will take the form of a pancake lunch from midday in the church hall. Two courses – savoury and sweet pancakes – will be served. The cost is a $10 donation which includes tea and coffee. All welcome. Details: 4871 1369.
First Fleeters
The Fellowship of the First Fleeters Southern Highlands Chapter will meet on February 14 at 10.30am at Mittagong Community Centre on the corner of Albert Lane and Queen Street. Guest speaker will be Chapter member Ted Westwood who will relate the origins of his Australian Family Tree with his talk “The tale of First Fleeter John Martin and John Randall.” They arrived on the Alexander in 1788 and became patriarchs of the first African/American Australian families. Yerrinbool walkers
The Yerrinbool Walking Group meets every Monday from 8am and Thursday’s from 6pm at the Yerrinbool Railway Station. The group heads off on an hour-long walk each day and new members are welcome. Details: 0438 660 559.
Seniors' Club
Mittagong Seniors’ Club meets each Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 2.30pm. The gathering is held in the Community Centre in Queen Street, Mittagong. Come for morning tea at 10am to learn more. The group offers a variety of activities including craft, games, ukulele and various outings.
Bowral CWA meeting
CWA Bowral Branch will hold its first meeting of 2018 on February 14 at 1.30 pm. If you have recently moved to the Highlands come and join us for a friendly afternoon where tea will be served following the meeting. There will be a guest speaker on the topic ‘The Free Mason’s Clothes Line Project.’ New members and guests are welcome. Parkinson’s support
The first meeting for 2018 of the Southern Highlands Parkinson's Support Group will be held on February 20. The meeting will be held in the Springs Room are Mittagong RSL Club and will begin at 10.00am. Guest speaker will be Mathew Ott, a Physiotherapist from Mittagong Physio and Pilates. Bushwalkers
Southern Highlands Bushwalkers are set to restart their walking program for 2018. The first adventure for 2018 will be held on February 18. The Little River trek at Buxton, off Wilson Drive, will floow the fire trail to a scenic walk along the river to the swimming hole.
