These are among the many community-based stories that have been introduced into the Southern Highland News over the past three months.
Their inclusion in the the paper across the three editions each week is part of a stronger focus on community news.
The News team has been working closely with some of our readers to find out what they would like to see more of in the paper – the general consesus was community news: special occasions, profiles and more opportunities for the voice of readers to be shared.
We embraced this feedback and are keen to establish a strong connection with the people, news and interests of Highlanders.
This push towards more community content has now been cranked up a notch with the introduction of village news pages.
We began our village news pages in the February 7 edition of the Southern Highland News.
Our first contributions came from Colo Vale and Robertson. It was great to learn more about the first Australiana-themed Colo Vale market day for 2018 and the impressive fundraising efforts of the Robertson Garden Club (pictured).
We now want to hear the news of other villages in the Wingecarribee Shire. We want to know what has been happening in Burrawang, Kangaloon, Berrima, Hill Top, Yerrinbool, Bundanoon, Exeter, Penrose, Wingello, Sutton Forest, Canyonleigh, Glenquarry, Avoca, Fitzroy Falls, Balmoral Village, Wildes Meadow, Werai and any other village in the shire that might have been missed from this list.
So please let us know about what is happening in your part of the shire or any special event or activity on the horizon. We are keen to share your photos and your news.
Submitting your village news is as simple as going to the Southern Highland News website http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/
From that point you need to click on the ‘Community’ tab at the top of the website, then click on ‘send us your news’. From that point you can submit your story and pictures under anyone of the many categories weddings, babies, out and about, sport or general news.
