The cancellation was made due to an issue with a freight train at Menangle Park.
7 News Sydney had reported that a freight train derailed on the Southern Highlands line on Friday.
However, a Transport Management Centre spokesperson said the cancellation was caused by a freight train requiring mechanical repairs.
The spokesperson said the centre wasn’t sure when services between Campbelltown and Picton would resume.
The line has been closed in both directions.
Replacement buses have been organised and limited bus services will be available on Friday afternoon.
