Her mother, Trish, approached Interchange Australia to provide supports that were specific to her needs.
Claire attends our Day Options Program where she participates in activities such as art, dancing, cooking, swimming and Zumba.
She also attends regular weekend outings to events and a wide range of exciting destinations.
By participating in these programs, she has been able to learn new skills, enjoy unique experiences and meet new friends.
Claire has also benefited from Short Term Accommodation funding.
this has enabled her to engage in weekend activities at Springett House in Burradoo.
One of Claire’s goals was to lose weight so she would be able to attend Riding for the Disabled.
Claire’s Consultant at Interchange Australia liaised with her GP to get her an Enhanced Primary Care Plan which would assist her to achieve this goal.
She has lost 32 kilos so far and is planning to lose more.
When the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) commenced in South West Sydney in 2016, Interchange Australia assisted Claire’s mother to apply for funding.
Claire was successful in getting a package that met her needs. This enabled her to continue with the current supports through Interchange Australia.
She has since been able to transition into permanent accommodation and is now able to live away from her parents in supported accommodation. In this more independent environment she is learning new skills such as budgeting and housework.
Claire said that “with all the help from Interchange Australia, I have been able to achieve my lifetime goals.”
