1 – Retford Park picnic. Sunday, January 21, 10am to 2:30pm. Retford Park, 1325 Old South Rd Bowral. Details: 48611933.
Gather around the Millennium Canal at Retford Park for a Sunday picnic.
Bring your own model boats or join the craft table to make paper boats and watch them drift down the 80 metre waterway.
Bring your friends and family to play old fashioned games among towering trees - three legged races, sack races and musical cushions.
Then rest in the shade for your family picnic (BYO picnic – no BBQs allowed).
Gates open from 10am, children’s games run from 10:30am to 12pm, the picnic will run from 12pm to 1pm and there will be more children’s games from 1pm to 2:30pm.
Please note that only ice creams and cold drinks will be for sale.
Entry is $5 for adults, $10 for children or $25 for a family (maximum two adults and three children).
2 – Women’s self-defence classes. Friday, January 19 to Friday, January 23. 1/8 Davy Street, Mittagong.
An hour long class learning basic kicks, hand strikes, defence against weapons, ground attacks and attack scenarios.
Martial arts builds self-confidence, respect for others and is a great way to keep fit and make lifelong friends.
This program is designed to recognise a potential threat to your personal safety. The techniques are safe to practice and easy to learn. The benefits are increased confidence, the skill and ability to defend against assault.
No experience is necessary, beginners are welcome. All equipment is provided, just wear loose fitting clothing and bring a bottle of water. Cost is $16 per hour.
3 – Bowral Art Gallery member’s exhibition. Friday, January 19 to February 11, 10am to 5pm daily. Bowral Art Gallery, 1 Short Street, Bowral.
This annual exhibition features the artwork of members of the Bowral and District Art Society (BDAS).
The art society consists of over 500 members and this event is held each year to give an opportunity for both emerging and established artisans to show recent works and sell them at artist direct prices.
There are myriad artistic genres – still life, abstract, impressionist, for example – on display and all artwork is for sale.
4 – Bunnigalore introduction to endurance day. Sunday, January 21, 8am to 5pm. Bunnigalore Road. Details: 0408 468 622.
This event provides a great opportunity for a relaxed introduction to the sport of horse endurance riding. Casual riders, social groups, school teams, pony clubs, families and parents are all invited to attend.
There will be a team challenge competition, expert talks and demonstrations, hands-on assistance for newcomers, event catering and coffee on the day. Bookings are required through website link.
5 – Mittagong markets. Saturday, December 16, from 8am to 2pm. Uniting Church grounds, corner of Alice and Albert Streets, Mittagong.
The weekend market at Mittagong is a friendly and affordable country market.
It has a decent array of takeaway coffee and food options, fresh produce, plants and flowers, second hand books and clothing, vintage furniture, and bric-a-brac.
